Fall will be here before you know it and soon you may be thinking its time to take some overdue family portraits or perhaps take advantage of the wonderful fall colors and update or add to portraits taken earlier in the year. Lately, I have been asked what might be some good clothing choices for Fall family portraits. So I have put together a couple boards with good examples and inspiration for you and your family. My basic thought process behind these boards is to demonstrate how picking different colors from a similar palette can create a cohesive and put together look among several different people without looking matchy matchy. Remember, custom lifestyle photography is centered around those “slice-of-life” moments. I believe the most beautiful portraits you can have perfectly portray your every day look…both clothing and personality-wise. It’s important to wear clean, appropriately fitting clothing to your session; There’s no need to feel your Sunday best should be the chosen attire. You lose so much personality and look very sterile in clothing that doesn’t truly identify who you are on a day-to-day basis.

Typically when clients have any questions, I suggest they scour websites like Old NavyForever 21GapAnthropologiePiperlimeJ.Crew, or Banana Republic. All of the above fashions are available at these websites and are pretty accessible. I also think it’s best to lay all of the outfits (and accessories) out on a bed before the session so that you can be assured everything ties together nicely. I’m always more than happy to answer questions or help choose a color palette for sessions, so never hesitate to email!
